Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS)
What is STEPPS?
Jackson-Feild is the only Adolescent Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility in Virginia to offer this therapy.
STEPPS stands for Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving. It is an emotional regulation training that helps the client recognize and understand their own (escalating) emotions. Through work with the adolescent’s therapist, this therapy helps regulate emotions for positive reactions and outcomes. Adolescents learn new skills on how to express emotions appropriately. It allows the client to become better in control of themselves and in relation to others.
Family Therapy
Do you want to improve communication, relationships and work through difficult feelings with your child? Family therapy is an integral part of the improvement of your child’s interactions and behaviors.
Family therapy is a key component of your child’s success at Jackson-Feild. Family therapy is a form of talk therapy that focuses on the improvement of interfamilial relationships and behaviors. Working together, we develop a problem-solving system to help restore the parent-child relationship and reduce stress.
Once a month, we encourage in person family therapy sessions, called family engagement, which is facilitated by your child’s case manager. Weekly family sessions can be done virtually for your convenience. Family therapy helps residents, their parents and siblings prepare to live together more peacefully after discharge.
