The two-story home was the only structure on campus for almost forty years. The upper level houses the offices of the executive director, human resources, finance and admissions. The first floor consists of the board room, training room and program offices.
Rodgers/Tucker Cottage (1960)
Tucker Cottage is named in memory of Maria Washington Tucker, wife of Beverly D. Tucker, the second Bishop of the Diocese of Southern Virginia and Mr. Rodgers who was a benefactor.
Marshall/Darden Cottage (1963)
Marshall/Darden Cottage is named for The Rev. Norman F. Marshall and Miss Lallie Darden. Rev. Marshall established the Episcopal Home for Girls in 1920. Miss Darden was a school teacher in Hampton, and her estate provided funds to build this cottage.
Mayes-Holloway Building (1965)
It originally housed the Home’s chaplain and has been used for a variety of purposes over the years. It is named in honor of Harriett Mayes who served the Home for more than forty years, the majority of which was as an administrative assistant. Mrs. Louise Holloway is an alumna and later served in a variety of capacities.
Edith Gage Dining Hall (1967)
Mrs. Edith Gage proudly served as the Home’s superintendent for twenty-six years. She was beloved and respected by everyone whose lives she touched.
All Saints Chapel (1979)
The Chapel honors the service of Dr. William G. Christian for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Home. It also honors the memory of Helen Marie Boudiette of Suffolk who perished in an automobile accident. Miss Boudiette’s parents provided a challenge gift which they matched to build the chapel. The Chapel is used for worship services and other spiritual activities.
Eleventh House (1988)
Jackson-Feild assumed management of Eleventh House, a community-based group home in Richmond established in 1974 from its founders, Cheryl and Ron Gerhardt.
Robinson/Withers Gym (1971)
This building is named in memory of Mary S. Robinson whose legacy provided much support, and in memory of the Rev. Dr. & Mrs. Robert E. Withers who were longtime friends and supporters of the Home. The gymnasium is the center of athletic and recreational activities.
Edna Hayden Gwaltney School & Gwaltney Cottage (1994)
The on-campus school began in 1994 when Mr. Edward Titmus provided a generous grant to create it. Mr. Titmus was given the naming rights, and he chose to honor of his third grade teacher, Miss Edna Hayden Gwaltney. Gwaltney Cottage also bears the name of Miss Gwaltney.
First Step Cottage (1997)
The name of this cottage comes from its original use which was to provide an orientation and evaluation for all new residents to the Home… the first step on campus.
Horace and Ann J. Buxton Culinary Arts Modular Trailer (2014)
The modular trailer was named in memory of Horace and in honor of Ann J. Buxton in 2014. The trailer houses the culinary arts classroom and kitchen and houses the computer lab used for online courses and vocational education testing.
Activities Building (2019)
The activities building was constructed as a multi-purpose building for activities, training Arts & crafts and group events.
Maintenance Building (2023)
The maintenance building consolidated all maintenance equipment and supplies under one roof. It allowed equipment to be service out of the elements. The former maintenance building was converted into storage units for every cottage.
